やっとですが、Facebookに登録しました。それで、英語でもブログを書くことにしました。
I have finally joined Facebook! So, I decided to start writing this blog in English, as well.
最初、Mixiにご招待を受けたのですが、日本の携帯電話がないと登録できないことが分かり、ずーっと前から何人かの方々にご招待を受けていたFacebookを考えました。
At first, I was invited to join Mixi (a social website in Japan), but found that I couldn't because I didn't have a mobile phone in Japan. So, I thought about Facebook. Quite a few people had invited me to join for ages.
正直なところ、子供たちがやっているのを見て嫌だなーと思ってました。自分が載せたくない写真だって友達が勝手に載せ たりするわけでしょう？日本人留学生が来ると子供はうれしいから留学生のプライバシーなど考えないし、載せていいかと聞かれた留学生もOKしちゃうんです ね。もちろん親だの私の許可など必要ないと思ってますから。子供の友達だからキツく言えないし。
To be honest, looking at what children are doing on Facebook, I didn't like it. You know, even if you don't like a photo of yourself, someone else can load it up on the site. When a student came from Japan, children got so excited that they put her photos on their Facebook without thinking about her privacy. Of course, the student herself gave permission if she was asked. They never thought about seeking permission from her parents or myself. I didn't want to lecture them about it when they were friends of my children, either.
でも、ちょっと考えたんですよ。今の状態で仕事の量を増やすのは物理的に不可能だから、収入を増やすのには直接クライアントに来ていただくのが一番。ビジネスに利用している人もいるし。
However, I had a second thought: it is impossible to increase my workload at the moment, so in order to increase my income, the best way is for the clients to come directly to me. I've seen some people using Facebook for their businesses.
あとは、今回の地震で全国に散らばってしまった同級生探し。Facebookに登録していない人のほうが多いからどうなるか分からないけど、私は苗字も変わってしまったので高校の卒業アルバムの写真を使ってみました。見覚えのある方、ご連絡ください。
Also, I'd like to find all my friends who I lost contact with after the earthquake. They could be anywhere in Japan now. I know most of them won't be on Facebook, but with hope, I used my photo from my school album because I changed my family name. If you remember me, please contact me.
で、早速、いいことがありました！
But one good thing happened!
ア メリカ人の友人が連絡してきて、今何もしていないと言うんです。ふと考えたら、彼女は高学歴（私は教育委員会での英語指導助手の選考の際に毎回履歴書など の翻訳をしていたので彼女の学歴は知っていました）だし、校正の仕事をしてみないかと持ちかけたらOK。彼女となら一緒に楽しく仕事ができそうだし、われ ながら素晴らしいヒラメキでした。
An American friend contacted me and said that she was not doing anything at the moment. Thinking back, because I translated all the CVs of the Assistant English Teachers employed by the Tomioka Board of Education, I knew she had a great educational history. So, I asked her if she would be interested in becoming a proofreader for me and she said YES. I'm very positive that we can work together beautifully. It was a great idea if I say so myself.
考えたら、何もニュージーランドにこだわらなくてもいいんですよね。今、夫に非居住者のタックスレートなどを調べてもらってますが、これさえきちんとすれば問題なしです。これからちょっと楽しみが増えそうです。
Thinking about it, there's no need to limit the search area to New Zealand. My husband is now checking about non-resident withholding tax. If we do it properly, I can employ people from anywhere in the world. I'm excited!
